Another play-off hopeful in Guernsey’s sights

With Binfield (twice), South Park and Hanworth Villa all seen off in recently weeks, Guernsey have another play-off hopeful in their sights on Saturday when Chertsey Town head to Footes Lane.

The Green Lions could make it six wins out of 10 since the turn of the year and put daylight between themselves and the bottom four depending on other results, as well as make gound on the group of teams immediately above them.

They would also be doing all the above sides they have beaten recently a favour, with Chertsey currently occupying the final play-off spot. A win could leave them as high as third by the end of the day. Their results in 2023 have been mixed with five wins, five defeats and a draw in the league, and they are winless in three. They recently suffered the blow of losing one of their most prolific strikers of recent seasons, Jake Baxter, to Westfield. However, they still boast the division’s join-third highest scorer William Montague in their ranks.

The Sarnians have suffered two 4-0 defeats away from home to the Curfews, including earlier this season when Tom Martin was sent off, and the meeting between the two at Footes Lane last year saw the visitors leave with the points after a 1-0 win.

All those who started in Tuesday’s last-gasp victory are looking to keep their places, with Colin Fallaize assessing the situations of a couple more players. Kieran Mahon, Will Fazakerley and Charlton Gauvain all confirmed as still out injured.
