It’s a first Guernsey double-header of the season this weekend, with both our men’s and women’s teams in action.
Tony Vance’s Green Lions head to Hanworth Villa on Saturday looking to pick up their first win of the season, while Anna Gauvain’s Green Lionesses are at Carshalton Athletic in the first round of the Isthmian Women’s Cup on Sunday afternoon.
For the men’s side, Tom Dodds will be out for a few more weeks with a fractured arm, while Kieran Mahon and Jamie Dodd’s returns to action on Wednesday were both marred by injury that keeps them out this weekend, but Ross Allen has declared fit to play despite being replaced with a knock on Wednesday.
Hanworth are in the play-offs in the early stages of the season having picked up seven points from their first four matches. We snatched a 4-4 draw in stoppage time on our last trip to Rectory Meadow thanks to a Matt Loaring penalty (we were 3-0 early on in the game), but our last meeting saw Paul Merson’s son Sam star at Footes Lane, scoring four times in a 5-0 thrashing.
GFCW made it to the second round of the Isthmian Women’s Cup last season, beating Corinthian-Casuals 6-1 in the first round, their first ever fixture, before being knocked out by Bognor Regis Town. Opponents Carshalton play in the Surrey Premier Division and win their opening match 5-0 against Beechole Belles last weekend. There could be Guernsey debuts for Courtney Hicks, Heidi Dawber (who was denied a chance to make her debut last season due to a broken leg) and promising teenager Chloe Ingrouille.
