Free entry as another big game beckons for Green Lions

Guernsey could take a huge step in their fight for survival if they can back up Saturday’s excellent win over Binfield with another against Hanworth Villa on Wednesday night.

Entry for the match is free of charge as the Sarnians hope for a bumper crowd to get behind them for another important game.

Victory would make it four wins out of six and keep the Green Lions hot on the heels of Bedfont Sports, who also have an important clash with Sutton Common Rovers.

Tony Vance has another selection headache on his hands, but for good reasons with the team playing well on Saturday and several other players knocking on the door for inclusion. Those that remain out include Kieran Mahon, Will Fazakerley and Charlton Gauvain. Captain Jamie Dodd is touch and go after an injury forced him off on Saturday.

Since this fixture was abandoned in December due to a bad injury to Hanworth Villa defender Thomas Scott, the Villains have played seven games, winning four, drawing one and losing two of them.

With two or three games in hand on various members of the current top five, they still have one eye on a play-off spot. A win for them could send them up three places to eighth depending on other results.

Hanworth, based in Hounslow, were opponents for the Green Lions twice in the space of five days during the Sarnians’ mammoth schedule to end their 2012-13 season. Sandwiched between a Sunday night and a Thursday night game, GFC were beaten 2-1 on the mainland. They met again at Footes Lane in Guernsey’s fourth game in seven days, and they duly took revenge with a 5-1 thrashing thanks to Dave Rihoy’s only hat-trick for the club. Glyn Dyer and Dodd got the other goals.

Villa won the North Division of the Combined Counties Premier League last season to win promotion. They have won four of their last eight games to elevate themselves into a comfortable midtable position.

If you are coming along, why not bring a friend of family member for the first time? It’s free!!!

Wednesday’s match kicks off at 7.45pm. Fans unable to make it to Footes Lane can follow the action live on our social media channels, and catch up later with highlights on GFCTV. A full match report will follow on the website.
