Guernsey’s stop-start season can finally gather momentum as they host Leatherhead on Wednesday night after an 18-day break.
The Green Lions are chasing their first win against a side with an identical record of one point from three games so far. But the Tanners have been kicking on in the cups, beating Dulwich Hamlet of the Isthmian Premier Divsion in an FA Cup first qualifing round replay, and also won their FA Trophy first qualifying round tie against Hayes & Yeading United last weekend.
Those cup competition have ensured a stuttering start to the campaign for Tony Vance’s side, who are actually chasing a first win in 15 games, having last taken all three points in March.
That run includes a 4-1 defeat to Leatherhead on their last visit to Footes Lane, also the last meeting between the two sides.
The Surrey side finished third last season but lost to Marlow in the pay-off final.
For Guernsey, Sam Murray is chasing a goal or two to take him level or past Ryan-Zico Black (24 goals) and to close the gap on Glyn Dyer (26). Tom Dodds will be unavailable for a few weeks due to an arm injury that forced him off against Harrow Borough. Ross Allen and club captain Jamie Dodd are recovering from injuries and will hope to be involved.
Wednesday night’s match kicks off at 7.45pm. Fans unable to make it to Footes Lane can follow the action on our social media channels. Highlights will be uploaded to our YouTube and social media channels after the game, with a full match report to follow on the website.
