Guernsey may not be playing another promotion chaser at home, but they come up against one of the league's most in-form teams on Wednesday night as Hanworth Villa visit Footes Lane.
The Green Lions have dropped to 15th as a result of Northwood's 6-1 win over Badshot Lea on Tuesday night, but a win for GFC will see them reclaim 14th. After our last two extremely tough games against teams in the top three, we have won half and lost half of our last 10 games. Vance's side continue to score for fun, with 32 netted in 12 games since Christmas. A win would put the Sarnians on double figures for victories this season, which would match the total from the whole of last season.
Loaring, on 15 goals for the campaign so far, is aiming to equal his best ever scoring season of 16 which he achieved in 2012-13.
With several GFC players selected for Saturday's Muratti semi-final in Alderney (including Josh Addison, Jamie Dodd, Tom Dodds, Charlton Gauvain, Loaring, Dave Merris, Dave Rihoy and Brandon Wallace), it will be interesting to see the balance Tony Vance has struck with island coaches Merris and Ryan-Zico Black as to who can play this evening. This could allow the likes of Christian Povall, Simon Arnold, Alex Ward and Oscar Leadbeater to stake a claim for a start either this evening or for Saturday's trip to Uxbridge. Owen Wallbridge is available for selection again, as is midfielder Kieran Mahon, who have both been missing with injury. Sam Murray is close to a return but this evening may be too soon for him.
After a five-game winless run at the start of the year, Villa have won four of their last six to solidify their place in the top half. They could go up to eighth with a win tonight. Kyen Nicholas has 20 goals for the season.
Guernsey staged a mangnificent second half comeback to draw 4-4 at Rectory Meadow in October, a result that ensured the Green Lions avoided setting a new club record for consecutive defeats.
Loaring, Murray and Jacob Fallaize were on the scoresheet on Hanworth last visit in February last year, in a 3-1 victory that was part of the team's climb away from relegation trouble.
Wednesday night's match kicks off at 7.45pm. Fans unable to make it to Footes Lane can listen to the full 90 minutes on our @GuernseyFC X (Twitter) Space and keep up with our text updates on our social media channels. GFCTV highlights will be uploaded to Facebook, X and YouTube and a full match report will also follow the game.
