It’s a basement battle in Isthmian South Central tonight as 19th-placed Guernsey head to Moatside to take on table proppers Merstham.
Tony Vance has consistency in his squad, with Sam Murray for Dave Merris the only change from Saturday’s late defeat to Ashford United, proving the Green Lions with another option in attack.
Kieran Mahon is a couple of weeks away from returning after fitness and Ross Allen is recovering from illness, while Tom Martin serves the second match of his suspension having been sent off against Chertsey Town. Keene Domaille has completed his ban but is unavailable.
The full squad is as follows: Addison, Martin, Marsh, Fallaize, Dodd, Vaudin, Alvarez, Dodds, L Mahon, Loaring, Pereira, Hale, Le Tissier, Fazakerley, Murray.
A first win of for the Moatsiders would see them leapfrog the Green Lions on goal difference, but a win for the Sarnians would be a significant boost as it would take them up to 13th, where they would remain until at least the weekend as it is the only midweek fixture, having been initially postponed due to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Surrey side were narrowly edged out by leaders Northwood in a 3-2 defeat on Saturday.
The two sides have not faced each other for since 2015, the final meeting being a 2-1 win for Merstham at Footes Lane (Matt Loaring got Guernsey’s goal). Earlier that season, in November 2014 they inflicted the Green Lions’ worst ever defeat, blowing them away 8-0 at the Moatside stadium on route to promotion via the play-offs.
The previous season, a 1-0 defeat at Footes Lane for GFC was preceded by an exciting 3-3 draw on the mainland, with Ross Allen (two) and Dom Heaume getting the goals as the Sarnians came from 3-1 down to claim a point.
Monday’s match kicks off at 7.45pm. Fans unable to make it to Moatside can follow live coverage on GFCTV. Highlights and a full match report will be on the website later this week.
