Guernsey are shaping up for what will likely be their most high-profile home game of the season as the Farnham Town bandwagon rolls into town.

Fifty-five league games unbeaten, and averaging nearly four goals a game this season, big-sending Farnham are aiming to steamroller straight through the league to earn back-to-back promotions. Heavy financial banking since their takeover saw them win 35 out of 38 league games last season as they won the Combined Counties Premier Division South at a canter, scoring 130 goals in the process. It was actually a draw at Jersey Bulls that confirmed their league title as early as March. Attacker Owen Dean has 10 goals to his name already this campaign.

If the Green Lions were to pull off a shock, they would be the first team to beat Farnham Town in the league since February 2023.

This is one GFC fans would have been eyeing up ever since the fixtures came out in July, as much for the past as for the present. We last faced Farnham Town back in our promotion season of 2012/13, when we met three times. We beat them 2-0 in September on the second step of our epic run to the FA Vase semi-final (the goals coming from Ross Allen and a thumper from Ryan-Zico Black). We then didn't face them again until the midst of our mammoth run towards the end of the season, one of 16 games in April. Dom Heaume equalised before a crucial winner from Nigel Hutton at the Memorial Ground to kept the Green Lions in the title hunt. The last meeting was the last of four games in four straight days over a long weekend to end that season, with Matt Loaring's close-range effort enough to earn promotion for Tony Vance's side, who were denied a second goal to make it comfortable when Ross Allen's shot wasn't given despite crossing the line.

The experienced Dave Merris should return to boost Tony Vance's options, as he was in charge of the Guernsey FA U21s in their Malaya Cup victory against the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm last weekend. Fin Patterson and Zach Gilman were part of that squad and so come back into Vance's thinking for tomorrow. Tom Dodds is still working his way back from an arm fracture, while the game also comes too soon for Jamie Dodd and Kieran Mahon.

Having moved level with Ryan-Zico Black on 24 goals for GFC, Sam Murray is now just two away from catching the next player in his sights, Glyn Dyer. Ross Allen needs four more goals to reach 300 strikes for the club.

Season tickets have now arrived and will be availalbe for collection tomorrow.
