Marlow                      1 (McLeish-White 85')
Guernsey        1 (Murray 47')

Guernsey were pegged back late but still claimed an excellent point at Marlow on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Josh Addison and his defence were given a real test by their promotion chasing hosts and it looked like Sam Murray’s neat finish early in the second half would be enough for an unlikely victory but Aaron McLeish-White, a thorn in GFC’s side in the past, netted just minutes from time to ensure the spoils were shared.

The Sarnians spent much of the game on the back foot, and the opening exchanges were no different with a series of interceptions and blocks.

Junaid Bell shot straight at Addison, while Murray dragged wide on the other end on 20 minutes following some neat play from the visitors.

Addison held at the second attempt to deny Curtis Chapple midway through the half after a quick switch of play from the hosts.

Louis Rogers headed wide from a corner before Marlow came closer than they would all half as Naheer-Omar Nawaf was denied by the near post. The Blues forward was then foiled by Addison, who got down quickly to snuff out a chance after cross from the right.

Guernsey had the ball in the net on 36 minutes as Hale cut back for Kieran Mahon but it was quickly chalked off as the assistant referee deemed Hale to have run the ball just out of play.

GFC’s stubborn defence had one more task complete before the half was out, blocking Bell’s effort after he was teed up from a short free-kick.

Their resoluteness got its reward less than two minutes into the second half as the Green Lions sprung a shock. Murray met Kieran Mahon’s cross from the left and hooked home from close range to bag his second goal for the club.

Midway through the half, Addison was called into action again as the got down to deny substitute Dawid Rogalski. Three minutes later, McLeish-White found himself through on goal but fired too high under pressure from Keanu Marsh.

Dave Merris had Marlow stopper Aaron Watkins scrambling with an effort from range but it rolled just wide.

Tom Dodds made a vital block to keep out McLeish-White again, while Nawaf gave Guernsey scare as he fired just beyond the far corner.

Marlow piled on the pressure in the closing stages and finally made the breakthough with five minutes left as McLeish-White converted a low cross from the right.

The hosts were desperate to get the ball back and complete the turnaround, but the Sarnians nearly nicked a winner themselves as substitute Matt Loaring was put through down the right, but his shot was saved at the near post.

Addison saved from Toby Raggett in the final minute of the 90 and Tony Vance’s side successfully stuck to their task of preserving their point in stoppage time and, despite cutting it fine to catch their flight after traffic on the motorway, could consider their Saturday a job well done.

The point lifted Guernsey up to 16th with Saturday’s other results as follows: Ashford Town 1-4 Chipstead, Binfield 3-1 Bedfont Sports, Chertsey Town 1-0 Uxbridge, Merstham 1-5 Basingstoke Town, Northwood 3-1 Leatherhead, South Park 1-2 Hanworth Villa, Suttong Common Rovers 1-0 Walton & Hersham, Westfield 0-0 Southall.
