UXBRIDGE    2 (Hobbs 23’; Ndukuba 70’)

A young Guernsey side learned valuable lessons in a 2-0 defeat to Uxbridge on Saturday afternoon.

Short of a huge chunk of senior players due to the Muratti semi-final Tony Vance gave full debuts to Alex Ward and Oscar Leadbeater, also bringing in Simon Geall to add experience to the side.

Jacques Cauvin made a crucial block early on while the follow-up was sent over the top by the hosts.

Some sustained pressure following a corner for Guernsey saw Ross Allen tee up Ben Solway at the far post but Uxbridge keeper George Legg was equal to it.

The opening goal came midway through the first half as Kai Hobbs got across the near post to head home at a corner.

Elijah Anthony should perhaps have made it two on 38 minutes as he broke through one on one against Christian Povall but couldn’t keep his effort down.

The Green Lions started the second half well and tested Legg just before the hour as Tom Vaudin’s long ball was brought down by Owen Wallbridge, who couldn’t beat the home keeper.

Alex Ward, fired a dangerous ball across the face of goal on the half-hour but no team mate was able to get on the end of it.

The result was sealed with 20 minutes left as Ezra Ndubuka picked up the ball in the area and fired past Povall.

The Sarnians perhaps deserved a consolation late on, but Seb Vance couldn’t finish off after Wallbridge forced a mistake in the home defence, and Legg diverted the ball onto the crossbar after Wallbridge got in behind the defence.

Guernsey dropped to 16th in Isthmian South Central with Saturday’s other results as follows: Corinthian-Casuals 1-3 Badshot Lea, Leatherhead 2-0 Binfield, Marlow 2-1 Ascot United, Northwood 3-0 Hartley Wintney, South Park Reigate 0-0 Metropolitan Police, Southall 0-3 Chertsey Town, Sutton Common Rovers 2-0 Chipstead, Thatcham Town 1-3 Hanworth Villa, Westfield 0-3 Raynes Park Vale.
