UXBRIDGE 4 (Okorogheye 9’; Donnellan 25’; Bocarro 36’; Taylor 76’)
GUERNSEY 1 (Gauvain 65’)
The euphoria of last weekend’s late win was quickly wiped away on Saturday afternoon as Guernsey were well beaten at Uxbridge.
The Green Lions will admit they were second best, especially at the end of a difficult first half when they found themselves three goals behind – although it could have been different if a couple of close calls had found the net for the Sarnians.
Charlton Gauvain gave Tony Vance’s side hope midway through the second half, but a fourth killed off any hope of a comeback.
It took less than 10 minutes for Uxbridge to edge in front as Ada Okorogheye burst into the box on the left-hand side and converted from the angle. Twenty minutes in, it became two as Leo Donnellan helped the ball past Josh Addison from close range after a corner routine led to a scramble in the box.
Casey Bocarro finished from a similar angle to the opener to make it three on 36 minutes, then Guernsey’s task was made harder as Ross Allen was forced off with injury.
Sam Murray forced a save from George Legg on the turn in a late rally, while the number nine also missed the target by inches with a header.
Murray continued to be GFC’s best hope of a goal, testing Legg in the second half after cutting in from the right. A brilliant cross from Owen Wallbridge almost led to a goal but substitute Fin Du Port was inches away from getting his head to it.
Vance made a double change on the hour as Frazer Maginnis and Brandon Wallace replaced Simon Arnold and Jacques Cauvin on the wings, and four minutes later Guernsey had one back as Jacob Fallaize put Gauvain through one on one to beat Legg and give the visitors hope.
Unfortunately it didn’t spark a comeback as James Taylor restored the three goal cushion as the game entered its final quarter hour, drilling home after Guernsey failed to clear a throw in.
Guernsey remain 20th in Isthmian South Central, with Saturday’s other results as follows: Ascot United 2-1 Hayes & Yeading United, Farnham Town 2-1 Raynes Park Vale, Hanworth Villa 2-0 Binfield, Horndean 1-0 Harrow Borough, Kingstonian 1-0 Ashford Town, Leatherhead 0-1 Moneyfields, Rayners Lane 1-0 Metropolitan Police, South Park (Reigate) 1-2 Hartley Wintney, Southall 2-1 Westfield, Sutton Common Rovers 3-0 Badshot Lea.
