Guernsey deserved something from the game as they went toe-to-toe with league leaders and champions elect Peacehaven & Telscombe in Sussex.
After a goalless first half that the Green Lions had much the better of, including several clear chances, they were stung within two minutes of the restart as Tom Burton pounced on a mistake to give the hosts the lead.
Ross Allen and Rhys Jordan both had efforts cleared off the line, but GFC were handed a way back into the game when they were awarded a penalty, but Ross Allen could only shoot straight at the home keeper, who enjoyed an excellent afternoon to keep an excellent GFC at bay, including an excellent reflex save to keep out a Marc McGrath header from close range.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men late on when Jon Marzetti was sent off for two bookable offences, only for Angus Mackay to also receive a red card in the last minute when he gave away a penalty, a doubly-harsh decision because not only was the foul outside the area, but he also had a covering defender and so was clearly not the last man. His suspension will put strain on a defence already light in numbers due to injuries and suspension.
Callum Saunders converted it to seal Peacehaven's win, but GFC are still firmly in the mix for not only a play-off spot, but a top-three finish.
