Guernsey are safe in Isthmian South for another season.

They weren't able to secure it last weekend against Horsham, or on Saturday afternoon at Faversham Town, but a 2-0 victory for Molesey over Chatham Town, secured in the final 10 minutes, means the latter cannot catch us. The gap is now eight points with just two games to play - the Green Lions can breathe a sigh of relief.

But that made Guernsey's game no less relaxing, having kicked off an hour before the rest of the league's fixtures, and it was still a frustrating afternoon as a depleted Sarnian side left Salters Lane empty handed.

The Green Lions battled hard but couldn't get the breakthrough, save for Ross Allen's strike in the second half that was ruled out for offside.

Captain Simon Geall blocked almost on his own goal-line to deny Liam King an early goal as the hosts looked to take control.

GFC's first sniff at goal came courtesy of Craig Young inside 10 minutes, but his rising effort from 25 yards sailed over the bar.

Riley's first save came midway through the half as he held at his near post from a low effort by King as the Lilywhites looked to make the most of their direct approach. A sustained spell of pressure at the other end eventually saw Will Godman save from Allen.

The Sarnians were growing into the game and following a free-kick, Tom De La Mare crossed towards the far post. Dom Heaume connected with a volley but it flew well over.

Guernsey did have to be alert at the other end to deal with two consecutive corners, with the second flicked on at the near post but over the bar.

Young was involved again in GFC's next effort on goal after good work by Paris Pereira and Matt Loaring, but Young again fired over.

The hosts came closest of all following Josh Stanford's free-kick that hit the wall - the ball dropped for the home side and the ball was pulled back but the strike on goal by Luke Harvey was blocked on the line by, of all people, Allen.

Faversham began the second half with intent and Matt Loaring wasted a good opportunity before Luke Harvey was off target from the edge of the area at the other end. Matthew Bourne also headed over the bar as the home side put the pressure on.

Riley then made a strong save to deny Renford Tenyue as the Lilywhites went direct again.

The Green Lions thought they had soaked up the pressure and nicked the lead 10 minutes into the second half as Allen poked home Loaring's low cross but the assistant referee's flag went up for offside. Allen then found the target with a free-kick but Godman held.

Faversham finally forced forced home the opener three minute after the hour, and it was a lovely finish as Sam Bewick thumped home a volley from the edge of the area after the ball had dropped following Tenyue's delivery.

Liam King should have doubled their lead moments later, but missed a sitter, as did Luke Harvey on the counter-attack.

Sandwiched between that was the Green Lions' best chance of the game as Paris Pereira found Allen, who pulled back for Heaume, but the number nine's shot was blocked off the line.

This was a frantic period and Riley made a fantastic save from Harvey one-on-one.

As the game entered the final 15 minutes, Guernsey had another good opportunity attacking three on two. Pereira found Young, who in turn played it to Heaume, but the number nine took too many touches and the chance was snuffed out.

Riley stood firm again to deny Stanford at his near post with just over 10 minutes left as Faversham looked to hit their visitors on the counter.

Harvey narrowly missed the top corner with a free-kick after Fallaize had fouled his man on the edge of the box.

Guernsey had now run out of steam and didn't threaten enough to suggest they would get the equaliser to secure their own fate, and it was left to waiting for news elsewhere.

But the worries were over come 5pm when it was confirmed that Chatham's defeat meant the Green Lions had survived the relegation battle.

The rest of the Ryman South results were as follows: Carshalton Athletic 4-3 Lewes, Chatham Town 0-2 Molesey, Corinthian-Casuals 1-0 Chipstead, Dorking Wanderers 1-0 Hythe Town, Greenwich Borough 2-0 Godalming Town, Hastings United 1-1 Walton Casuals, Horsham 0-1 Sittingbourne, Ramsgate 1-1 Tooting & Mitcham United, South Park 3-1 Herne Bay, Three Bridges P-P Cray Wanderers, Whyteleafe 2-2 East Grinstead.

Faversham Town: William Godman, Ryan Cooper (c), Jamie Maxted, Daniel Carrington, Matthew Bourne, Sam Bewick, Josh Stanford (Ryan Cheek 90'), George Monger, Liam King (Carl Rook 62'), Luke Harvey (Luke Griffith 87'), Renford Tenyue. Not used: Kyron Lightfoot, David Blaikie.
