Surely Guernsey’s FA Cup run can’t be as dramatic as last season’s FA Vase journey?! If this is anything to go by, it could be another great story.

Ross Allen’s hat-trick ensured the Green Lions saw off one of last season’s FA Cup success stories. Hastings had reached the third round proper last year, eventually going out to Championship side Middlesbrough.

His first two strikes were both cancelled out, the second late on, meaning Tony Vance’s side were facing a replay which – due to rules put in place to allow GFC into the competition – would have meant another trip to the mainland on Tuesday. Keen to avoid that, they launched one final attack and a cross was inexplicably handled at the far post by a home defender. Allen kept his nerve from the spot to complete his hat-trick and fire the Greens into the next round.

The draw for the second qualifying round takes place on Monday.
