Guernsey FC is delighted to announce the formation of a brand-new Development Side, designed to nurture the next generation of Green Lions and help bridge the gap for all aspiring GFC players hoping to make the step up from youth & local football into the starting team.
We’re equally thrilled to confirm that Leon Meakin has been appointed as the Development Team’s first manager. A well-known figure in local football, Leon brings experience, passion, and a strong track record to the role. He will combine this new position with his current role as Guernsey FA U18 Muratti manager, creating a seamless pathway for young talent across the island.
Leon made his name with St Martin’s AC, where his success and leadership left a lasting legacy. In his most recent stint as Saints manager, he led the club to an extraordinary quadruple – lifting the Priaulx League title, the Stranger Cup, the Jeremie Cup, and regaining the Upton Park Trophy. After stepping away from the day-to-day demands of club management due to a change in circumstances, Leon was the clear standout for this new role. His deep knowledge of the local game and commitment to developing players make him the ideal figure to lead this exciting new chapter.
The Development Side will make their debut on Wednesday 16 July at 7:00pm, taking on Belgrave Wanderers in the opening round of the Spirit Cup – a brand-new free summer tournament hosted at Victoria Park. The competition will span three weeks, culminating in the Spirit Cup Final on Friday 8 August.

“This role allows me to continue to invest time in football. It’s an exciting opportunity and I look forward to ensuring Guernsey Football Club remains competitive, and that there is a clear pathway for young players coming through with aspirations to become regulars in the Guernsey FC first XI.”
