Green Lionsesses take next big step

It’s Guernsey FC Women’s third year and it’s yet another exciting stepping stone as the Green Lionesses host Wimborne Town in their debut in the English women’s football pyramid on Sunday.

Anna Gauvain’s side begin life in Division One of the Southern Region Women’s Football League, step six of the women’s pyramid. It is exciting for players and fans alike as they step fully into the unknown, not knowing what to expect or what the standard will be like.

GFCW can take heart from the fact they put up a good fight against a team a step higher in Sutton United Women in their first ever home fixture in February, though they were eventually beaten 4-1 in the Combined Counties Football League Cup.

Most pleasing for the Green Lionesses is the return of Heidi Dawber, who is due a huge slice of luck. She missed the whole of the first season with a broken leg, then suffered another leg break on her debut in the cup against Carshalton Athletic last September. There could also be a debutant as former Guernsey Women’s Muratti player Rochelle Mullen has returned to playing football and is named in the squad, while Steph Batiste is also back, having made one appearance in our first season.

The full squad is as follows: Steph Batiste, Aimee Ogier, Vicki Rang, Scarlett Kenneally, Scarlett Gallagher, Heidi Dawber, Elise Le Lacheur, Candice Bougourd, Rochelle Mullen, Emily McCartney, Donna Gallienne, Amy Dallamore, Codie Le Flem, Adrienne Leech, Chloe Ingrouille, Calleigh Hedley.

Division One has been expanded to 12 teams this year. Wimborne Town finished seventh out of nine teams in 2024-25. The Green Lionesses went unbeaten as they won the JFA Women’s Combination at a canter.

Please note that season ticket cards for have unfortunately not arrived yet but will be distributed as soon as possible. Women’s season tickets will be emailed on Friday night and Saturday so fans can still gain entry.

Sunday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Fans unable to make it to Victoria Park can listen to full live commentary on the Guernsey FC YouTube channel. We will post the link shortly before kick-off.
