Guernsey are out of the FA Vase for the 2025-26 season after defeat on Saturday at Snodland Town, who have advanced to the third round for the first time.

The Green Lions’ season is in danger of slipping away if they can’t reverse their current slump, which is now three defeats in a row. They were unable to rouse themselves enough to provide a reaction to last week’s thrashing at Haywards Heath Town.

Ross Allen equalised from the penalty spot twice, but on both occasions Tony Vance’s side couldn’t hold the tie level for long.

Emmanuel Shoderu shocked the visitors with a wonderstrike inside five minutes, letting fly from just out the area. His shot flew like a rocket into the top corner, giving Josh Addison absolutely no chance.

The Lions were struggling to find a rhythm but were gifted a route back into the game after 20 minutes when Charlton Gauvain was clearly tripped in the area, with little complaint when the penalty was given. Allen went for the bottom right corner from the spot and finished confidently to level.

Charlie Sheringham should have put his side back in front when Jacob Fallaize slipped when he was the last man. The Snodland forward of famous footballing stock was through on goal, but Addison did brilliantly to stay big and parry the first effort. Sheringham had a tap in on the rebound but somehow dragged it wide of the near post.

GFC were finally starting to impose themselves on the game and had couple of decent chances as they worked the ball nicely in the area and Sam Murray slipped a pass through to Allen, but the angle was against him and he couldn’t quite find the far corner with his effort and no one was able to quite turn it in as the rolled across goal.

Allen also teed up Callum Le Lacheur on the edge of the box but he was unable to muster enough power in his shot to beat Josh Fowler.

But Snodland got the upper hand again as Guernsey struggled to deal with a cross into the box and Harry Hudson was teed up on the edge of the area to stroke the ball into the bottom corner.

Nathaniel Olawole thought he had given his side a two-goal cushion after the break but he was denied by a header off the line.

Allen got the Greens level again midway through the second half, finishing another penalty after the hosts were penalised for handball, but the visitors were not given a chance to built on it as they found themselves behind against straight away. James Teodorescu cut inside before hitting a low shot from the edge of the area that zipped into the far corner, the pace of the ball taking it past Addison before he could react.

Olawole grabbed a fourth just four minutes later to put the tie virtually beyond doubt, and Addison had to make a couple more saves before the game was out, with GFC unable to muster enough of a threat to get back into it.

Guernsey’s next bid to arrest their form is a tricky trip to Bexhill United next Saturday.
