Guernsey FC Women signed off at Victoria Park for the season with an excellent win over Havant & Waterlooville on Sunday afternoon.

The Green Lionsesses handed the Hawks their first defeat of 2026 and gave themselves a huge confidence boost for the rest of the season, especially with experienced players like Jess Frampton and Rochelle Mullen returning from injury.

They had to dig in towards the end and survived a couple of scares but held on for a valuable three points.

Normally being a side that falls behind early, the Sarnians drew first blood inside seven minutes as Donna Gallienne ran onto a throw-in down the line and crossed low to meet the run of captain Candice Bougourd, who burst into the box to turn the ball in from six yards and reach double figures for the club.

The returning Emma Queripel saved well from Evie Griffiths and Lottie Spottiswood and Jodie Burchell were off target as the visitors responded well, and the equaliser game just after the half-hour when a Havant corner dropped to Phoebe Fitzgerald, who made space for herself and fired through a crowd of bodies, with the deflection wrongfooting Queripel.

Fitzgerald had the ball in the net again shortly before half-time but was flagged offside as she ran onto it.

The Greens got their noses back in front just before the hour. It game from a wicked free-kick delivery from Bougourd that curled into the six-yard box making it very awkward for Sara Luce in the Havant goal. Heidi Dawber nipped in first to get a touch that forced the ball home from close range.

Queripel made another comfortable save to thwart Ruby Harris-Pritt while there was a second disallowed goal from the visitors as Calla Swain was flagged offside. The biggest scare came deep into injury time as Mia Gardner stretched to connect Emma-Jane May’s free-kick towards the goal but it bounced mercifully off the crossbar.

There was little time left after that and it was a mixture of relief and joy at the final whistle as the Green Lionesses celebrate a second win of 2026. Although it was an unlikely outcome anyway, the three points coupled with a defeat for Shaftesbury mean Anna Gauvain’s side are mathematically safe from relegation from the Southern Region Women’s Division One South and can officially look forward to building for next season, but will still want to finish strong in their three remaining away games.

Sunday’s other results were as follows: Andover New Street 1-1 Wimborne Town, Bemerton Heath Harlequins 0-0 Bournemouth Sports Reserves, Farnham Town 5-0 AFC Varsity, Shaftesbury 1-3 AFC Stoneham.
