Guernsey FC Women finished their season with a third win in four games to all but confirm a seventh-placed finish in the Southern Regions Women’s Division One South.
Donna Gallienne’s brilliant curling free-kick gave the Varisty keeper no chance as she gave the Green Lionesses the lead after 20 minutes.
Heidi Dawber doubled the lead five minutes later with an equally stunning finish. Running onto Codie Le Flem’s pass, she wrong footed her marker on the left, cut in and curled into the far corner.
The hosts pulled one back with a nice finish from their number 16 as she ran onto a through ball.
Guernsey were relatively untroubled in the second half as they protected their lead to finish the weekend in seventh having completed their fixtures in a very positive first season in the UK leagues, in which they picked up seven wins and five draws. The two teams immediately below them, Bemerton Heath Harlequins and AFC Varsity, only have one game left each and cannot catch Anna Gauvain’s side, while Bursledon would have to win three of their remaining four games to send the Lionesses down to eighth.
Sunday’s other results were as follows: Andover New Street 3-1 AFC Stoneham, Bournemouth Sports Reserves 2-0 Farnham Town, Bursledon 1-2 Havant & Waterlooville.
