Jerseyman in Midhurst’s ranks as Stags visit Victoria Park

Midhurst Easebourne

Guernsey will come up against a Jerseyman on Saturday when Midhurst & Easebourne visit Victoria Park for a Southern Combination Premier Division clash.

Prolific forward Brett Pitman, now 38, signed for the Stags this summer and already has six goals in six appearances. He scored well over 150 goals in the football league, including as high up as the Championship – he represented Bournemouth, Bristol City, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth, Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers during his professional career. He has spent the last four seasons between steps three and five of non-league and will be keen to get one over on the Sarnians.

The Green Lions will be without Sam Murray, who injured his knee at Crawley Down Gatwick, and Josh Addison, who dislocated his finger in last weekend’s win at Roffey, for a few weeks. George Goubert and Dylan Graham are also unavailable, but Tony Vance otherwise has a host of players back available so has plenty of options for his squad, including the potential returns of Ross Allen, who have been declared fit to play, and Ben Solway. If Seb Sheppard deputises in goal, it will put him on double figures for appearances. Jacob Fallaize is edging closer to being available for selection, while Matt Loaring is still out.

Midhurst have two wins and a defeat from their opening three league games, while GFC are one of just three sides who remain unbeaten. Like the Greens, Midhurst are through in the FA Vase but out of the FA Cup. They finished 15th last season after four wins in their final six games took them away from relegation trouble after a few key signings. That included a 3-0 win over Guernsey in a midweek game that was rescheduled from when the original fixture was abandoned due to an injury with GFC leading 4-1. Their previous visit to Victoria Park saw the Green Lions triumph 4-1, with Callum Le Lacheur getting his first two goals for the club in addition to strikes from Charlton Gauvain and Ross Allen.

Saturday’s match kicks off at 1.30pm. Fans unable to make it to Victoria Park can keep up to date with the action via posts on our social media channels. We will advise if commentary is available on our Facebook page and @GuernseyFC X Space. A full match report will follow.
