The final action of last night’s 5-2 victory for the U23s at Saltdean United saw Si Geall pick up a nasty injury.
Originally starting in midfield, Si volunteered to go in goal after an injury forced Regan Penney off in the first half. In the last action of the game, Si was involved in an accidental collision as he competed for a set piece delivered into the Guernsey penalty area.
After a two-hour wait for the ambulance to arrive, Si was taken to A&E in Brighton to be assessed in the early hours of this morning. Thankfully, Si is sitting up and talking, but scans have revealed a bleed on the brain, along with fractures to his eye socket and cheekbone. He is now waiting to see specialists to determine the next steps.
A huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone at Saltdean United for the care and kindness shown towards Si afterwards. It was a worrying situation, and your help in calling an ambulance and finding hot water bottles to keep him warm while we waited meant a great deal to us. Being a long way from home made your support mean even more, and we very much hope to welcome you to Guernsey in the near future and have the opportunity to look after you as well as you looked after us. From everyone at Guernsey FC, thank you. It was genuinely appreciated.
Simon is one of Guernsey FC’s longest serving players, making nearly 200 appearances for the senior team before stepping back. He has recently returned to the set up as one of the senior players tasked with guiding Leon Meakin’s Development side, providing experience on the pitch as the youngsters make their step into a UK league in a bid to experience more competitive games before first-team level.
We’re all wishing Si a speedy recovery and hope to have him back home in Guernsey soon.
