Guernsey FC Women’s wait for a first win this season goes on after a harsh late defeat at Millbrook on Sunday.
It was a tight game, with chances few and far between – particularly in the first half, but the Green Lionsesses’ defence was breached by a through ball that led to the hosts taking the lead. Adrienne Leech went close late in the half but Anna Gauvain’s side had to settle for going in behind.
The visitors started the second half brightly under heavy drizzle, with Leech grabbing an equaliser early in the half when her shot squeezed under the Millbrook keeper.
A great goal line clearance from Mollie Watson, with help from the crossbar looked to have saved a point but a late corner for the home side was bundled across the line with little time left for GFC to respond to respond.
A tough result after a very good performance. Sunday’s other Southern Region Women’s Division One South results were as follows: AFC Stoneham 1-2 AFC Varsity, Andover New Street 0-2 Havant & Waterlooville, Bognor Regis Town 4-2 Wimborne Town, Bursledon 0-4 Bournemouth Sports Reserves, Whitchurch United 4-0 AFC Portchester Reserves.
