Guernsey FC Women’s first win of the season couldn’t have come more emphatically as they made a mockery of an early 2-0 deficit to smash double figures past Bursledon on their own patch on Sunday afternoon.
Having fallen two behind early, the Green Lionesses were back in it before the break and then a five goal blitz in the first 16 minutes of the second half put them well in command, before a few cake icers as the game ticked towards its conclusion.
Ruby Smith bagged a brace on her return from injury and there were first goals in some time for Amy Dallamore and Elise Le Lacheur, while Codie Le Flem also topped up her impressive tally.
Emma Queripel made a great reaction save at a corner early on but a flick on sent Bursledon forward Izzy Pouncy clear to find the bottom corner via the post after seven minutes. Pouncy then rounded Queripel, despite the Guernsey keeper doing well to slow her up initially, to tuck in for 2-0 inside a quarter of an hour.
Guernsey were down but certainly not out, getting one back after 20 minutes as Codie Le Flem spotted the run of Calleigh Hedley and weighted her through ball perfectly for the number nine to seize on it and slot it home. Hedley teed up Amy Dallamore to force the Bursledon keeper into a save from the angle and Querpiel made an important save to prevent the number nine getting her hat-trick and making it 3-1.
The hosts nearly extended the lead soon after the restart but a lob hit the crossbar, which proved key as the Lionesses turned it round quickly early in the second half with three goals in six minutes and ran riot from there.
Elise Le Lacheur, who endured an injury-hot 2025-26 campaign, bagged her first goal in more than 18 months to level it up on 50 minutes, seizing the ball after hesitation and the back and firing into the far corner. Two minutes later, the scoreline had been turned on its head as Le Lacheur turned provider to pick out Hedley, who shuffled her feet brilliantly through a crowd of bodies and tucked home. Le Flem then made it 4-2, unleashing a brilliant curling effort from outside the box that gave the keeper no chance – definitely the pick of the bunch.
The Greens were in dreamland and got to more to reach six on the hour as a tackle on Le Flem fell kindly for Donna Gallienne, who fired home first time from the edge of the box, the keeper not ready for her early effort. Bursledon kicked off, passed it back to their defensive line where Hedley forced a mistake and played in Ruby Smith, who had only been on a matter of minutes in her return from injury, to finish first time back across the keeper into the opposite corner.
Captain Candice Bourgourd got the seventh, tapping home after Scarlett Kenneally’s spectacular effort bounced down off the crossbar (which might even have gone over the line itself but was not given) to mark her 40th appearance for the club with her 12th strike.
Dallamore’s contribution with around a quarter of an hour left was much deserved after her tireless running throughout the match. Huge credit to Mollie Watson for her involvement in this one, too, as she collected at left back, drove past her marker and swept a brilliant 40 yard ball curling from the touchline into the channel for Dallamore to run in behind and she duly dispatched from the edge of the box – 8-2.
Querpiel made one more good parry (having also earlier been relieved to see an attacked head over an empty net after she was caught stranded), but the Lions were hungry for more and duly obliged in the closing stages.
Smith found herself in space from a block in midfield and tucked her second in the far corner with little over five minutes left before Le Flem, within a few seconds of returning to the field run onto a Kenneally clearance that was missed in the Bursledon defence and slotted in the double-figure clinching goal, nutmegging the keeper for good measure with the last kick of the game.
The Lionesses finally had the result their last two performance had merited, and hugely aided the goal difference to boot, with the goals healthily shared around, meaning the Sarnians shot from 11th up to fifth. Sunday’s other Southern Region Women’s Division One South results were as follows: Havant & Waterloovile 5-0 Whitchurch United, Millbrook 3-1 AFC Portchester Reserves.
