Lions aim to remain in the hunt

Guernsey have a tough midweek away trip as they visit Newhaven for the second time this season as they look to build on back-to-back wins and plant themselves firmly in the Southern Combination Premier Division chasing pack.

Due to goal difference, the Green Lions would need an unrealistically high margin of victory to move up the table but will effectively go joint third on points, albeit with more games played than most of the teams around them.

The Sarnians could have a new debutant as midfielder Louis Hunter, who has been playing his local football with St Martin’s in the Priaulx League, has signed on and makes the trip. Most of those involved in the dominant win over Horsham YM on Saturday are on the plane, with just the work-tied Ben Solway and Corey Brouard not travelling – but the latter may join up with the Development squad for their Southern Combination U23 East fixture at Jarvis Brook on Wednesday night to ensure he remains match sharp having had most of his minutes from the bench so far.

Niall Hainsworth and Charlton Gauvain are back in training so will hope to feature again soon. Josh Addison, Dave Merris and Matt Loaring remain in rehab for their respective injuries. Simon Arnold is away.

Newhaven are 12th in the table with four wins, one draw and five defeats from their opening 10 league games. The Dockers won three of their opening four league games but have lost five of their last six. They finished eighth last season, with GFC’s trip to The Trafalgar Ground bringing about 5-1 win thanks to a stunning Ross Allen hat-trick and a Sam Murray brace. It is the second time we are headed to The Trafalgar Ground this season, with Gauvain’s early goal enough for 1-0 win in the FA Vase in August.

Tuesday night’s match kicks off at 7.45pm. Supporters not making the journey to The Trafalgar Ground, Fort Road can watch the game live on our YouTube channel or listen to commentary on our @GuernseyFC X Space. We will also have regular updates on our social media channels. A full match report will follow.
