Guernsey seek a fourth straight win as early strugglers Little Common visit the island on Saturday in the first of another weekend double header at Victoria Park, with all three sides in action across the weekend and going into next week.
An unlikely set of results could see the Green Lions jump up to third with a win, but the aim is more about keeping themselves among the chasing pack – especially with a tough trip to leaders Haywards Heath Town next week.
The weekend off his helped some of Tony Vance’s players recuperate as he continues to have his options boosted. Dave Merris is available for selection again after injury and Niall Hainsworth is pushing for a return, but it’s too soon for Charlton Gauvain, who is close, while Matt Loaring is still rehabbing from a minor knee operation. Josh Addison’s broken finger will keep him out a little while longer.
Winger George Goubert is looking to score for the third game in a row, as is fit again Sam Murray, as is Ross Allen.
Little Common are 19th with two wins from 11 matches so far this season. They survived comfortably in the end last season, with four straight league defeats at the end of the campaign not damaging their chances. They also reached the final of the league cup but were beaten by Steyning Town.
‘The Green Lane Boys” were the first side to beat GFC last season, 4-2 at home, but the Greens got their revenge in the reverse fixture at Victoria Park in a 4-1 win thanks to goals from Ben Solway, Jacob Fallaize, Ross Allen and Will Fazakerley.
Saturday’s match kicks off at 1.30pm. Supporters unable to make it to Victoria Park can follow our updates on social media. We will post ahead of kick-off if live commentary will be available.
Having had only 13 players available for the visit of Havant & Waterlooville last weekend, Guernsey FC Women have far more resources at their disposal when AFC Stoneham come to Victoria Park on Sunday.
The Green Lionesses went toe to toe with the league leaders and the 5-2 scoreline was certainly harsh. This time they have more options off the bench. Anna Gauvain welcomes back Emma Queripel, Eryn James, Adrienne Leech and Calleigh Hedley to the 16.
Last week’s equaliser means Codie Le Flem is now just one shy of 20 goals for the club. Guernsey could rise as high as third depending on other results.
The full squad for Sunday is as follows: Emma Querpiel, Alana Hockey, Mollie Watson, Scarlett Kenneally, Aimee Ogier, Zakiyya Qasim, Elenista Lambrou, Candice Bougourd, Eryn James, Donna Gallienne, Amy Dallamore, Elise Le Lacheur, Adrienne Leech, Codie Le Flem, Calleigh Hedley, Ruby Smith.
Stoneham have only played two league matches so far, winning one and losing one. They finished fifth last season, five points and two places above Guernsey. They drew 1-1 at Victoria park just over a year ago (with Calleigh Hedley scoring for the Green Lionesses). The last meeting saw Stoneham win 4-1 in the UK.
Sunday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Supporters unable to make it to Victoria Park can follow our updates on social media.
Guernsey’s development side have another chance to go top of the Southern Combination U23 East table when they visit Peacehaven & Telscombe on Monday night.
Last week’s 2-0 reverse at Newhaven was their first defeat of the campaign but three points would see them top the table on goal difference ahead of Eastbourne United. Aston Young, Sam Cooley, Tom Solway and Etienne Vance are all available again after missing last week’s game.
Meakin has named the following 12 to travel but is hoping to add a couple of senior players who need more minutes, depending on minutes played for the senior team on Saturday: Regan Penney, Oskar Cleal, Angus Mackay, Sam Cooley, Etienne Vance, Tom Solway, Archie Le Huray, Riley Tyrrell, Elden Roberts, Charlie Robilliard, Pearce Le Poidevin, Aston Young.
Monday night’s match kicks off at 8pm. Supporters not making the trip to Peacehaven Sports Park can watch the whole game on our YouTube channel or keep up with our social media posts.
A full match report will follow each game.
