Another high-score on the cards?

Guernsey welcome Raynes Park Vale back to Footes Lane on Saturday in a game that is set to be a cracker if the past two meetings are anthing to go by.

The pair shared 14 goals between them in two games last season. Unfortunately Raynes Park edged both games by the odd goal, but fans certainly got their value for money.

Ross Allen through he had won it for the Green Lions at Footes Lane from the spot with five minutes left, but a scrambled late eqauliser and an outstanding distance strike from Jordan Gallagher sealed a 3-2 win for Vale in January. Sam Murray’s hat-trick helped the Sarnians to come back to 4-4 in the final fixture of last season at Prince George’s Playing Fields, only for the South London side to grab another late winner.

They just missed out on a play-off spot last season, and have similar intentions for promotion this season, sitting just a point outside the top five. They narrowly lost out to runaway leaders Farnham Town in midweek, but won their three games before that. Tony Vance’s side can look to Vale’s surprise 5-0 reverse at Rayners Lane in September for inspiration that victory for the visitors is not a foregone conclusion.

As for Guernsey, they stopped a run of defeats with a draw against Uxbridge on Wednesday, although they should have won after a taking a comfortable 2-0 lead that they threw away in the second half. A win would only take us out of the relegation zone if there was a big enough swing in goal differnce with some of the sides above.

Ross Allen needs just two more goals to reach an outstanding target of 300 for the club.
