Bedfont appoint new manager in time for Footes Lane trip

Guernsey have a reprieve from playing teams at the top of the table as Bedfont Sports visit this weekend, but developments over the last week means the task isn’t as simple as it seems as the Green Lions look to return to winning ways.

Having parted company with Paul Johnson in October, Bedfont announced the appointment of Harrison Williams as manager this week and the club has already seen an upturn in fortunes, beating promotion hopefuls Walton & Hersham in midweek.

It was their first win in nine league games and saw them leapfrog the Green Lions in the table into 17th. The Sarnians need the win as they are cut adrift from the cluster of teams in lower midtable and need to get themselves back among that group, especially with tough trips to Basingstoke Town and Walton & Hersham on the horizon. If they manage it, it will be their 100th league win at Footes Lane.

Tyler McKane joins Tony Vance’s matchday squad, which is otherwise the same as that which put up such a good fight against league leaders Northwood last week. The full squad is as follows: Addison, J Martin, Marsh, McKane, Vaudin, Fallaize, Dodd, Dodds, Merris, K Mahon, L Mahon, Loaring, Wallace, Hale, Domaille, Murray.

Ross Allen, Joe Alvarez, Will Fazakerley and Charlton Gauvain all remain absentees.

Sam Evans is Bedfont’s top scorer with nine of their 15 goals so far this season. They were chasing promotion last year, and managed two victories over Guernsey last season, the second coming at Footes Lane when they turned a 3-1 half-time deficit into a 4-3 victory, with the equaliser coming with two minutes left and the winner in stoppage time.

2022 food back donations

For more than five years, Guernsey FC has held an annual food bank drive, with parcels handed out to local families in need before Christmas.

This year, for logistical reasons, we are not collecting non-perishable food items but instead will be having a bucket collection with the money raised going to buy food vouchers for families in need.

The money will be collected before Saturday’s game against Bedfont Sports. We would be ever so grateful if fans could donate some money, a kind gesture that will make a big difference to many local families this Christmas.

Saturday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Fans unable to make it to Footes Lane can follow live coverage on GFCTV. An update on the new pay-per-view service for GFCTV can be found here. Highlights and a full match report will be on the website after the game.
