Big guns back as GFC look to secure survival

After Saturday’s heroic defensive effort, Tony Vance has brought back several senior players ahead of the Green Lions’ East Monday trip to South Park in their bid to secure survival.

Ross Allen, Jacob Fallaize, Charlton Gauvain and Will Fazakerley are all restored to the squad after being rested on Saturday in preparation for the trip. Josh Addison also comes in for Jason Martin and Brandon Wallace earns a recall.

Having just returned from a knee injury on Saturday, Kieran Mahon is being rested in preparation for the final three games of the season. Seb Vance and Jacques Cauvain are the others from Saturday’s squad not involved.

Tom Dodds is set to draw level with Glyn Dyer on 177 apperances for the club, and could also pass Gus Mackay (180) before the end of the season. Two goals would put them on 950 in their history.

The full travelling squad is as follows: Addison, Vaudin, Fallaize, Dodd, Alvarez, Dodds, Merris, L Mahon, Gauvain, Loaring, Wallace, Allen, Domaille, Murray, Fazakerley.

Merstham and Bedfont Sports playing out a 2-2 draw on Saturday ensured Guernsey have definitely avoided the bottom two and automatic relegation, and the Sarnians’ safety from the relegation play-off places will be confirmed if they beat South Park or Mertsham and Sutton Common Rovers both lose. A draw for all three would also be good enough for GFC.

GFC’s resilience has come at the perfect time, with only one defeat in their last nine games and will take heart from the 1-0 win earned over the Sparks back in January.

South Park’s impressive 3-1 win at play-off certainties Marlow has kept them just about still in the hunt for a top-five spot, and nothing less than three points will do for them. They have played 12 times since their visit to Footes Lane but have picked up just four wins. However, two of those came in their last two games as they look for a resurgence in form in the nick of time.

Guernsey have painful memories of last year’s trip to Whitehall Lane, which ended in a 6-1 defeat and a red card for Kieran Mahon.

Monday’s match kicks off at 1pm. Fans unable to make it to Whitehall Lane can follow full live coverage on GFCTV and keep up to date on our social media channels. A match report and GFCTV highlights will be available on the website after the game.
