Bumper weekend at Victoria Park

Newhaven

Guernsey FC’s men’s and women’s teams are part of a bumper weekend at Victoria Park alongside three of the island’s representative sides in action.

On Saturday, Tony Vance’s Green Lions are looking to overcome a few unavailabilities to bounce back from a disappointing defeat in midweek. They face a Newhaven side that is unbeaten in its opening seven games, winning six and drawing one. They finished eighth in the league last season.

Ben Solway and Simon Arnold have been added to the injury list (joining Matt Loaring and Jacques Cauvin) in the last week, while Dave Merris and Jacob Fallaize are away. That means we could see Jamie Dodd and Callum Le Lacheur return to the squad as well as Josh Addison in goal.

The Sarnians could rise to fifth in the table with a win and still have games in hand on the teams above.

Please note that Saturday’s time kicks off at the earlier time of 1pm. Gates for the game open at 11.30am, with access to parking for GFC Parking Permit holders able to access their space from that time. Victoria Avenue will be closed from midday until 3.30pm.

The Guernsey FA U21s face the Fleet Air Arm in the Malaya Cup, which kicks off at Victoria Park later in the day. Supporters wishing to stay for the Malaya Cup game will be charged an extra £5 and will have their hand stamped. Those who do not have their hand stamped must vacate the ground by 4pm.

Guernsey Vets also take on the Fleet Air Arm Vets with a 10am kick-off, while the Guernsey Over 60s take on the England Over 65s at 7.45pm. There are no restrictions on other of these two games.

Andover

Sunday sees the return of the Green Lionesses to Victoria Park after a three-week break due to the postponed trip to Farnham Town, with Andover New Street the visitors.

Anna Gauvain’s side are unbeaten from their first two games, whereas Andover have won one and lost one.

Steph Batiste will be back in goal after duties were shared between Jess Frampton and Scarlett Kenneally in the draw at Bournemouth Sports Reserves, while teenager Ruby Smith is in line for her debut and Rochelle Mullen returns. Scarlett Gallagher’s involvement this season will be reduced as she has started university, while Vicki Rang is unavailable. Scarlett Kenneally, Candice Bougourd, Donna Gallienne are all set to make their 20th appearance for the club.

The full squad is as follows: Steph Batiste, Scarlett Kenneally, Aimee Ogier, Mollie Watson, Heidi Dawber, Jessie Staples, Candice Bougourd, Rochelle Mullen, Amy Dallamore, Emily McCartney, Elise Le Lacheur, Ruby Smith, Donna Gallienne, Codie Le Flem, Adrienne Leech, Calleigh Hedley.

Sunday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Fans unable to make it to Victoria Park for either GFC game can listen to full live commentary (audio only) of both, likely via Facebook live and our @GuernseyFC X Space. Match reports will follow on the website.
