Guernsey’s bid to keep up their 100% winning start to the season continues on Monday night with a trip to another new opponent, AFC Varndeanians. The game is being played at Peacehaven FC, Centenary Park, Piddinghoe Ave, Peacehaven, BN10 8RH.
The Green Lions haven’t won three in a row since early 2020, just before our season was ended by the covid pandemic, but triumph here would keep them at least joint top of the table in the early standings. It could also be our 100th win outside of the island.
Fin du Port is in line to return to the squad after missing last Tuesday’s hard-fought win at Seaford Town. Callum Le Lacheur, Simon Arnold and Zach Gilman are all unavailable to travel, but Niall Hainsworth could get his first minutes of the season, having been an unused sub last week. The Vs were promoted to the Southern Combination Premier Division in 2021 based on their results in the abandoned 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons. Their solitary point so far came on opening day and they were on the wrong end of a topsy-turvy game against Bexhill United in their last league outing.
The Sussex side were originally formed in 1929 as Old Varndeaians, initially made up of only former pupils from Varndean School.
