Luckily, Guernsey don’t have long to stew over Wednesday night’s defeat to Binfield as they hit the skies again on Saturday to visit a new opponent in Rayners Lane.
The Green Lions failed to make the most of their attacks in the second half againts the Moles only to be stunned be a winner form the visitors with virtually the last kick of the game.
That defeat has left the Sarnians routed in the relegation zone but they have another chance to get themselves out of it (goal-difference depending) with a win against the Lane.
Tony Vance’s side will need to rediscover their finshing touch against a side that are proving hard to beat. They have only lost twice so far and are only in the bottom half due to the number of draws they have been unable to turn into wins (five). Only four teams in Isthmian South Central have a better record than them.
GFC can take confidence from an excellent performance and win in their last trip on the road to Horndean, and they have some frustration to get out of their system on Wednesday.
Charlton Gauvain is set to make his 150th appearance for the Green Lions, with an 80th due for Tom Vaudin. Ben Acey should be back in the squad after missing Wednesday’s game, but Jamie Dodd and Kieran Mahon are still out.
Rayners Lane aren’t short of a goal or two themselves. Their one league win saw them put five past play-off chasing Raynes Park Vale in September. They were promoted from the Combined Counties Premier Division North last season. Frank Keita is their top scorer with eight goals to his name in all competitions this season.
