Charlton Gauvain was the big winner at the Guernsey FC End-of-Season Presentation Gala at St Pierre Park on Saturday, picking up a hat-trick of accolades.
The playmaker was named Coaches’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Fans’ Player of the Year for his contributions this season, in a campaign during which only Jacques Cauvin and Fin du Port made more appearances. He climbed past three players (Marc McGrath, Liam Mahon and Glyn Dyer) in the club’s overall appearance list (and drew level with Angus Mackay on 180 games) and his eight goals took him to 30 in total in his GFC career, shooting up the rankings past Will Fazakerley, Ryan-Zico Black, Glyn Dyer and Craig Young.
Fin du Port also scored a double after a strong debut season. His strike against Raynes Park Vale was voted on the night as Goal of the Season, while the coaches also picked him out as Young Player of the Season.
Ross Allen started the night off picking off the men’s Golden Boot for his 16 strikes this season, and he was also voted as Manelanders’ Player of the Year by the club’s loyal UK-based support.
There was plenty to celebrate for the women’s team too, with the Green Lionesses romping to the JFA Women’s Combination title and scoring 80 goals in all competitions. Calleigh Hedley’s 21 goals for the season in just 13 games earned her the Women’s Golden Boot, and her fantastic strike in the Combined Counties Cup against Sutton United was named as Ernie’s Champagne Moment. Elise Le Lacheur was voted by her team mates as Players’ Player of the Year, while coaches Player of the Year went to full-back Scarlett Kenneally.
Matt Loaring was given special recognition for passing 400 appearances for the season while off the field, stewards Paul and Jacquie Hewitt were awarded the Mark Le Tissier Trophy for Outstanding Contribution for the Club.
