Guernsey FC’s Development side missed the chance to go top of the Southern Combination U23 East Division as they fell short at Peacehaven & Telscombe on Monday night.
Leon Meakin’s side rallied in the second half after going in at the break three behind, but a late goal put gloss on the score for the host.
Senior players Simon Arnold and Corey Brouard travelled with the squad to get vital minutes in the legs, with veteran Angus Mackay once again leading the side.
Peacehaven’s got two goals in a minute just before the midway point of the first half, with their number seven drilling the ball across goal from a wide angle. They then gave the ball away immediately after kick-off and the Peacehaven forward slotted home from the edge of the box.
The hosts’ number nine was given too much room to pick out the roof of the net from 25 yards with an excellent strike shortly before half-time for the third.
The Lions reduced the deficit midway through the second half after Riley Tyrrell was send tumbling as he competed for a high ball into the area, with captain Mackay tucking it into the bottom left corner.
But the Greens conceded a fourth when a short backpass towards Regan Penney was intercepted and rolled home in injury time.
Next up for the U23s is a trip to Bexhill United next Monday.
