Guernsey FC’s development side will sit at the top of the Southern Combination U23 East Division for at least 24 hours after a fourth straight win.
A strong first-half performance saw Leon Meakin’s side take control in the first half, going in with an unassailable 3-0 lead. Jarvis Brook pulled one back early in the second half but never really looked like threatening a comeback.
Double hat-trick hero Charlie Robilliard picked up where he left off with an excellent opener inside seven minutes, picking the ball up near the halfway line and shrugging off a number of challenges on his way to the edge of the area, from where he whipped the ball into the near corner with a dipping effort.
Tito Guimaraes’ first was equally impressive, lashing a volley into the far corner after a ricochet kindly fell his way in the area, putting the young Lions well in command inside 20 minutes.
His second and the Sarnians’ third had more fortune about it shortly before half-time as he whipped in an inswinging free-kick from the right touchline that bounced straight through and in at the near post.
The hosts lashed the ball into the ceiling of the net at a corner 10 minutes into the second half but GFC managed the game well from that point. They could have added to it as Angus Mackay’s volley on the turn at a corner whistled narrowly over and Guimaraes’ drive when narrowly wide as he searched for his hat-trick.
Either Peacehaven & Telscombe or Eastbourne United will pick up the required points in their meeting on Thursday night to overtake the Green Lions, but for now they can enjoy being at the summit.
