Guernsey visit a famous old name in non-league football on Boxing Day as they head to Kingstonian for their latest festive fixture.
The Ks were relegated from the Isthmian Premier Division at the end of last year, but were playing as high as the Conference (now National League, one below the Football League) around the turn of the century.
They are looking to bounce straight back and look to be the only team mounting a serious challenge to Farnham Town at the top. They parted company with their manager Scott Harris in October after a collapse against Ashford Town that saw them lose 7-4, but rehired him almost instantly and the team has lost just once in 12 games since – to South Park (Reigate), Guernsey’s victims on Saturday.
Guernsey’s much needed win against South Park moved them up a place but they are still six points from safety, albeit with several games in hand.
Naill Hainsworth remains out injured but Steve Sharman and Kevin Gillighan will be pleased at the commitment show by the squad travelling just a day after Christmas. Owen Wallbridge is set to make his 50th appearance for the club.
Having jumped up to 27 goals for the club with a brace against South Park, Sam Murray moved past Glyn Dyer in the club’s all-time scorers lists, and next has 29-goal Craig Young in his sights.
