Tony Vance has been able to keep it consistent with his squad as Guernsey head back to the mainland on Wednesday evening to face Sutton Common Rovers
Of the 16 who travelled for the season opener against Thatcham Town on Saturday, only Sam Murray misses out due to picking up a knock in that game.
That leaves the following 15 on the plane on Wednesday afternoon: Martin, Addison, Marsh, Vaudin, Fallaize, Dodd, Alvarez, Dodds, K Mahon, L Mahon, Loaring, Hale, Allen, Murray, Legg.
GFC picked up a useful point in tough conditions on Saturday, which will give them confidence going up against a side they beat twice last season, 3-1 at Footes Lane in October, our delayed opening game of the campaign, and 2-0 in February. Ross Allen scored three goals in those two games, with the others coming from Kyle Smith and Tom Jackson.
The Commoners finished 17th in Isthmian South Central last season, two points behind GFC. Despite being just one point above the relegation play-off place, they were comfortably clear of any fears of the drop. They opened their 2022-23 campaign with an exciting 4-3 win over Chipstead. Their team takes a very different look to that of last season’s, which is often the case at this level.
Having ground-shared with Sutton United last season (although GFC played them at Tooting & Mitcham United’s Imperial Fields), they are playing at Church Road this year, sharing with AFC Whyteleafe, the reformed version of Whyteleafe FC that were formally in the same division.
Although it is too early for the league table to be of any importance, it is worth noting that after Tuesday night’s results, a Guernsey win coupled with favourable results elsewhere could put Vance’s as high as a play-off position.
