Guernsey kept their slim title hopes alive as they ended endless a three-game winless streak.

After a goalless first half, Nigel Hutton thumped the Green Lions in front with a viscious shot off the bar, but the home side were pegged back by a header within moments. Dave Rihoy restored the lead from close range before after McGrath’s initial effort had come back off the post and Tom Strawbridge made it 3-1 from a corner with his first goal for the club. An inswiging free-kick from the visitors in the dying seconds brought the nerves back but there was barely enough time to kick-off before the final whistle and three vital points were in the bag.

The Green Lions had a boost ahead of kick-off that Egham Town had lost their game, meaning a bit of pressure swung back to the Surrey side as they would have to win both their remaining games to be sure of the title. Any slip up on Wednesday or next Saturday, providing GFC win against Sandhurst Town tomorrow, Bedfont Sports in midweek and Dorking on Friday, would hand the initiative to the Sarnians – although it would still be a mammoth task given the fixture schedule.
