March was a disappointing month in terms of the fact it saw the Green Lions’ play-off challenge fade away, but Tony Vance’s side started their April run-in with a comfortable victory to complete the double over Sittingbourne for the season.

An own-goal on 20 minutes by George Crimmen gave Guernsey the advantage with Dave Rihoy and Tom De La Mare, restored to his preferred central midfield positionm, scoring in the final10 minutes to add gloss to the scoreline.

The Sarnians are in a new position of having nothing to play for come the final few games of the season for the first time, but Vance will want to make sure his team are still giving it everything until the end of the campaign, especially for Steve Sharman’s sake with a Muratti and Island Games to look forward to. Players are playing for their places.

It also allows Vance to test out new systems ahead of next season, and he did so in this game by trying out a formation with three at the back.

There was a welcome bonus in time for a busy summer with Alex Le Prevost making his first appearance since breaking his arm in September. He used the time to also have surgery on a troublesome hip problem.
