760Luke Winch was the hero as he came off the bench to turn the game around for Guernsey against Chipstead.
As seems to be the case all too often in this division, the struggling visitors arrived at Footes Lane with a host of new signings that made them a totally different proposition to what they would have been a week ago. And they looked good value for their lead at half-time despite Robert Webbe’s 10th-minute opener coming from the spot. Tony Vance’s side were struggling to get their act together.
But Winch had other ideas. The introdution of himself and Craig Young for too less attacking-minded midfielder gave GFC a new dimension.
It took the younger Winch brother just 15 minutes to make an impact, rifling a shot into the roof of the net from a tight angle on the hour. He was then instrumental again as he won a penalty, but Ross Allen missed the chance to put Guernsey in front from the penalty spot.
But Winch made sure it didn’t matter, taking matters into his own hands at a free-kick and curling it round the wall into the corner to earn GFC their 10th point from a possible 12 since their last league defeat.
