829Ross Allen scored a late winner at Footes Lane on Saturday as it looked like Whyteleafe were going to hang on for a point.
It was 1-1 at the break with Sam Clayton having cancelled out Craig Young’s 15th-minute strike, and the visitors were doing their best to frustrate the Green Lions late on. But with two minutes left, Jamie Dodd lobbed in one of his trademark long throws from the right touchline. A combinated of substitutes Tom Strawbridge and Dom Heaume (the latter making his comeback from a back injury that had kept him out for several weeks), both jumped to meet it and did enough to help the ball towards the far post, with Allen waiting in the right place to flick it in and spark delerium at Footes Lane.
Nine games unbeaten for Tony Vance’s side now, and they have won seven of those. The play-off push is well and truly back on.
