February was a miserable month for Guernsey, and March has started no better as the Green Lions’ own naivety cost them as they threw away the chance to end their losing streak at Church Road.

More contentious goals against, unawarded ‘goals’, woodwork struck, goalkeeping heroics, cruel deflections and denied penalty appeals – the footballing gods aren’t smiling on Tony Vance’s side.

At 3-2 up midway through the second half, the Sarnians could have put the game to bed, but rather than put the ball out of play as a home player was down injured, Glyn Dyer tamely knock the ball down the line which the home goalkeeper collected and the home team, possibly knowing their team-mate wasn’t really hurt, went straight up the other end and equalised with 10 minutes left.

The Leafe then really rubbed their visitors noses in it with an 84th minute winner.

Prior to that, it was all looking so positive for the Sarnians as Robbie Legg became the club’s youngest-ever scorer, netting his first for the club inside five minutes. They were then pegged back and fell behind early in the second half but Ross Allen and Craig Young had once again swung the game in GFC’s favour. Then it all went wrong.

The Green Lions will really be smarting after this latest defeat and you feel that they will take out their frustrations with a big win over someone very soon.
