Goals: Jackson 67’ – Fallaize 62’.

Jacob Fallaize netted on his century appearance as Guernsey battled to a useful point at Uxbridge on Saturday afternoon.

Fallaize turned home Dave Merris’ corner just after the hour, and although the Green Lions were pegged back by an almost identical goal just five minutes later, it ticks off another away trip with a positive result.

There was plenty of endeavour in trying to get forward from both sides early on. Sam Murray was pipped to the ball as he shaped up for a spectacular bicycle kick, but it took until the midway point of the half for an effort on goal for either side.

Wallace picked the ball up on the left and delivered an early cross for Gauvain to run onto. Unfortunately it bounced awkwardly in front of him just before he swung his foot at it and he lifted it well over as it skipped up.

Alex Witham hit a free-kick straight into the Guernsey wall and Joe Jackson’s volley was blocked in the aftermath of the resulting corner. Jackson should have scored from the next corner, completely free in the middle of the six-yard box but headed straight at Josh Addison.

Wallace had a half chance to put his side in front but was perhaps surprised that Gauvain’s dink towards Murray reached him at the far post, and could only put it behind as he stretched.

Anthony Mendy lifted the ball high and wide in injury time via a deflection. His second attempt from outside the box, as the resulting corner was headed away, spun off his foot and looped into Addison’s grasp.

In a really strong start to the second half, Fallaize came closest so far to breaking the deadlock on his 100th appearance, meeting Merris’ corner but seeing his header cannon away off the crossbar.

Addison then pulled off a brilliant save to deny Jordan Ireland, tipping over as Aaron Minhas teed him up just inside the area to hit high towards goal.

Centurion Fallaize marked his milestone appearance with the opener just after the hour. Normally so dangerous in the air from set pieces, this time it was his feet that did the damage as he met Merris’ deep, inswinging corner at the far post and turned it back across goal into the far corner.

But the lead only lasted five minutes as Jackson headed home from virtually on the goal line from a similar Uxbridge delivery.

Murray leapt to meet Merris’ free-kick but could only head wide. He then tried to help a bouncing throw from Marsh in at the near post but Harry Grad claimed it.

Two of Guernsey’s substitutes nearly combined as Liam Mahon sent in a high cross to the far post for Will Fazakerley, making his return from the injury he sustained in October, but at full stretch he couldn’t keep it on target and Grad saw it high and wide.

The home side cranked up the pressure in the closing stages as the looked for the three points, but the Green Lions were standing firm. An outstanding last-ditch tackle from Fallaize prevented a goal for Mendy, who also blazed well over in the final couple of minutes.

The point was important with Merstham picking up another three points to close the gap to safety.

Saturday’s other Isthmian South Central results were as follows: Binfield P-P South Park, Chertsey Town 2-5 Walton & Hersham, Chipstead 1-3 Leatherhead, Marlow 2-0 Hanworth Villa, Mertsham 2-0 Ashford Town, Northwood 0-1 Basingstoke Town, Southall 1-0 Bedfont Sports, Sutton Common Rovers 2-2 Thatcham Town, Westfield 2-0 Tooting & Mitcham United.
