Goal: Murray 90+1′.

Guernsey nicked an important three points in a tough away game thanks to Sam Murray’s stoppage-time winner.

Murray kept his cool to break into the box and finish off Will Fazakerley’s flick on to help the Green Lions reel in a couple more teams above them.

They had to do it the hard way, digging in to stay in the game in the first half (largely thanks to Josh Addison) before asserting themselves more on the game after the break.

Callum Le Lacheur flashed a shot just wide across goal early doors before Addison got down low to stop Reuel Powell-Downey finding the bottom corner. Powell-Downey also sent one narrowly over from Fin Agnihorti’s cross.

James Broadbent denied Charlton Gauvain’s effort towards the bottom corner after the Guernsey playmaker’s trickery saw him beat his man and work space for a chance, then Addison held on as Ross Barclay volleyed at goal.

Addison breathed a sigh of relief as he was caught in no-man’s land by Callum Edwards, whose attempted lob from the halfway line bounced just over. Almost immediately, Edwards picked Ross Allen’s pocket but his effort bounced mercifully off the post.

Three more big saves from Addison kept out Cameron Wiltshire, Edwards and Barclay before the half was out, while Gauvain almost nicked the lead if not for Broadbent in the Peacehaven goal. One more chance for the hosts saw Powell-Downey get through but he could only find the side netting.

The second half quietened down but the Greens had much more of of a foothold on the game, although Addison did have to save again from Edwards after good work by Wiltshire to set him up.

Callum Esnouf had to be alert to clear off the line after one of his own teammates had diverted a Guernsey corner towards goal.

The winner was pretty route one as Fazakerley rose to flick on Addison’s high kick forward after the full 90 minutes was up. Murray seized on it, steadied himself and knocked the ball past Broadbent to delight GFC’s travelling faithful.

Guernsey moved up to seventh in the Southern Combination Premier Division. Saturday’s other results were as follows: AFC Varndeanians 0-1 Haywards Heath Town, Crawley Down Gatwick A-A Horsham YM, Forest Row 2-4 Newhaven, Seaford Town 2-1 Pagham, Steyning Town 4-0 Shoreham.
