Guernsey FC Women suffered their heaviest defeat to date but can take the positives of never giving up.

The Green Lionesses were well beaten by a heavily-backed side full of players who should be playing at least a level higher, but it would have looked a much more even contest if not for a nightmare period at the start of the second half.

Iesha Swaby and Rachael Manley put the hosts in control inside half an hour. For the second goal, Alana Hockey was injured in her attempts to keep the ball out of the net, but the goal stood and Hockey had to be replaced. Luckily she had recovered enough to comeback on later to replace Kayleigh Marquis – who was making her own comeback from a long-term injury but was forced off again. Hockey and her defence had had an excellent game up to that point, considering how dominant the hosts were.

Two down at the break and there was still hope, but a nightmare start to the second half saw Emily Foss grab a 10-minute hat-trick as well as a goal from Francesca Thornton which put the game well out of sight.

Foss grabbed her fourth and Farnham’s seventh just after the hour but to their credit, Anna Gauvain’s side didn’t let their heads drop and kept trying to play. They were rewarded with a consolation on 64 minutes after some tigerish competing for the ball by Eleanor Jamieson earned the ball back from her opponent. She teed up fellow substitute Kellie Creed, whose inch perfect pass in behind the defence was met by the run of Codie Le Flem, who tucked it past the advancing Mya Francis-Pownall.

Substitute Echo Barrett scored another scorcher in the closing stages, and the Sarnians will be glad to see the back of Farnham for the season, and probably a lot longer as they will definitely be moving up the leagues.
