Du Port Goal Seaford

Guernsey said Merry Christmas to the Victoria Park faithful with an another goal fest on Saturday afternoon.

Sam Murray bagged his third hat-trick in just five games to reach a milestone 50 goals for the club, while Fin du Port celebrated his 21st birthday with a fine strike on his 60th appearance.

Tony Vance was a little short of options with a lengthy injury list and star man Charlton Gauvain suspended, which meant Gil Hunter was named on the bench for a home game for the first time and George Goubert was also called into the squad and would go on to make his debut.

Ross Allen had the first sight of goal for the hosts on the quarter-hour mark as his powerful effort swerved over the bar in a strong start, but it was Seaford who open the scoring against the run of play just before the half hour as Josh Wright won the ball back outside the area and work himself some space before lashing into the top corner.

The Greens levelled after a good passage of play on 40 minutes, with du Port collecting from Wallace, spinning and rifling into the bottom corner from the edge the box (above) to send the two sides in level.

Guernsey got off to an electric start in the second half, with Murray putting the Sarnians in front within a minute as he finished off du Port’s cross.

Murray Goal Seaford

Josh Addison made a good save to keep the score at 2-1 before Murray had a goal chalked off for offside. Brandon Wallace’s overhit cross had the crown fooled for a split second but it didn’t quite drop in the far corner.

Murray did extend the lead just after the hour with similar strike to one of his goals against Crawley Down Gatwick, running onto Jacob Fallaize’s clip into the channel and lobbing the ball over the stranded Jordan Brown to make it 3-1. But the Sarnians were pegged back again midway through the half as Wright ran onto a through ball and beat Addison for his second goal of the afternoon.

But any home nerves ere calmed with little over 10 minutes left as Ben Solway found himself free at the far post to nod in Dave Merris’s free-kick for his third goal of the season.

Murray completed his hat-trick deep into injury time sliding in to meet Allen’s cross to cap another fine day in front of goal from the big number nine.

But there was still time for one more addition to the scoresheet as a mix-up between Addison and his defence in trying to deal with a high free-kick into the box allowed Callum Conner to make it 5-3 moments before the final whistle.

A tough trip to Forest Row next Saturday will being 2025 to a close for the Green Lions.
