Former Leeds keeper comes in to cover Stanton injury

You may have noticed an unfamiliar name in Guernsey’s starting line-up at Imperial Fields today.

In a terrible stroke of luck, returning goalkeeper Callum Stanton picked up an injury in training late on this week. With both Josh Addison and Jordan Kelly unavailable, Tony Vance has used his contacts to help locate an emergency goalkeeper to face Tooting & Mitcham United.

Will Huffer may be a name that rings a bell with Leeds United fans. The 23-year-old, who was most recently at Stalybridge Celtic in the Northern Premier League,(and is due to join a new club next week) is able to help the Green Lions out for one game before he is set to join a new club next week.

He was given the number 13 shirt by Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa in 2018-19 and even made one appearance in the Championship, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Bristol City. He also spent time on loan at Barnet.

He has represented England at youth level up to U18, and has represented the Three Lions’ junior ranks alongside the likes of Joe Willock, Jay da Silva and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

We are grateful that Will is able to help out the Sarnians for one game.

Also coming into the squad after a long absence is Dave Rihoy, while Jacob Fallaize and Tom Jackson are set to make their first appearances since rejoining the club. Injuries to Charlton Gauvain and Jamie Dodd keep them out, along with Tom Strawbridge, who remains absent for a little longer.

Guernsey’s game in South London kicks off at 12.45pm. It is available in Guernsey on GFCTV, and we invite fans to head to ‘Le Lion Vert’ at the Hockey Club, assuming you have a negative LFT test result from earlier in the day. Please wear a mask when ordering a drink at the bar.
