Guernsey FC’s Development side got their second Spirit Cup campaign off to a winning start against Belgrave Wanderers on Sunday afternoon
Leon Meakin’s side reached the semi-finals of the competition last year before narrowly bowing out to St Martin’s. Meakin named a youthful squad for his team’s opener, with Jordan Kelly, Jamie Dodd, Gus Mackay and Ryan-Zico Black included to provide valuable experience alongside emerging talent.
Bels led from the penalty spot inside a minute, with Louis Pang getting the opener. But the Green Lions responded well, with Alfie Torode (who scored on his debut for the senior side last season) drawing the sides level just after the half-hour mark with a composed finish into the bottom corner to leave the sides all square at the break.
GFC Dev eased away in the second half with goals from Tito Guimaraes, Tyrese Kelly, Wilf Dorrian, and Bertie Beddow secured the victory.
Next up in the Spirit Cup is Sylvans on Wednesday, with a 19:30 kick-off.
