Kieran Mahon’s return is the standout news as Guernsey prepare to face title chasing Walton & Hersham at Footes Lane on Saturday.
The older Mahon brother has been missing for several weeks after the recurrence of a knee injury.
With a short turnaround before a trip to South Park on bank holiday Monday, Tony Vance has mixed it up to keep players fresh, and we could see some new debutants.
Seb Vance, Fin du Port and Jacques Cauvain have all been given the nod. Defender Vance and midfielder Cauvain have both been in the matchday squad before but haven’t had any minutes in a GFC shirt as yet. Attacking midfielder Fin du Port is a new addition. His name might be familar for having captained the Guernsey U18s in their Muratti victory over Jersey in March. Cauvain scored the winning penalty in the shoot-out to secure the trophy.
The Green Lions have put themselves in a strong position for survival after their recent win over Southall. A victory against the odds against the Swans on Saturday afternoon, coupled with a win for Merstham over Bedfont, would ensure they couldn’t finish in the automatic relegation places.
Walton & Hersham took the initiative in the title race with a 5-1 thumping of top-spot rivals Baskingstoke Town last weekend. Basingstoke won on Friday night to regain first place, but only by a point having played a game extra. A threadbare GFC were beaten 6-0 in the reverse fixture in November.
The Swans last visited Footes Lane almost exactly seven years ago, when Tom Martin and Jacob Fallaize got their first goals for the club in a 4-1 win.
Saturday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Fans unable to make it to Footes Lane can keep up to date with the action on our social media channels, and catch up later with the highlights on GFCTV. There will also be a full match report on the website.
