Green Lions gear up for SCFL debut

Guernsey begin life back in step five on Saturday as they mark their debut in the Southern Combination Premier Division debut at Victoria Park with the visit of Wick.

The Green Lions kicked off their season last Saturday with a 1-1 home draw with Bedfont Sports in the FA Cup. GFC have been withdrawn from the competition ahead of the replay due to a player registration error, but the game proved to be a good test and match fitness against strong opposition – and the best way to get over the disappointment of our exit is to kick off our league season with a win.

Wick are a brand new opponent for the Sarnians. This is their second season back in the SC Premier Division having been promoted from Division One via the play-offs in 2024. They finished 14th last season. They are based in Littlehampton, West Sussex.

The Dragons are also out the FA Cup, having lost 3-2 to VCD Athletic last weekend.

Ross Allen, Matt Loaring and Jamie Dodd are the only regularly featuring players to have represented the club the last time Guernsey played at this level, the 2012-13 season. Loaring is recovering from an injury but the other two have a chance of being involved on Saturday. Tom Vaudin is set to become the latest player to make a century of appearances for the Green Lions. Jacques Cauvin will unfortunately miss out with the impact injury he sustained blocking a shot last weekend, while Niall Hainsworth is still working his way back to fitness.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 2pm. Fans unable to make it to Victoria Park can listen to full live commentary on our YouTube channel. We will post a link before kick-off. There will be a full match report on the website following the game.

Please note that the car park will be open on a first come, first served basis before 1pm. At 1pm, Victoria Avenue will close with entry only permitted for Blue Badge and permit holders after that time. The road will reopen approximately an hour after the final whistle. There are several other travel options to get to Victoria Park, which you can find out about here: The Ground – Guernsey FC.
