Guernsey kick off an action-packed February on Sunday when they head to the mainland for a rematch with Sutton Common Rovers.
The Green Lions will be returning to Imperial Fields, the home of Tooting & Mitcham United, as Sutton Common’s usual home ground Gander Green Lane, which is principally used by League Two Sutton United, is unavailable.
It is the first of seven games this month, with six of them being away, and three of those being in midweek as GFC finally start to catch up on games missed due to our delayed start to the campaign and the postponed games over the Christmas period due to Covid-19 hitting Tony Vance’s squad.
For the next two months, the Green Lions will play every weekend and have an away game every midweek.
Rovers were the Sarnians’ opening match of the season, a 3-1 victory at Footes Lane. They will be keen to repeat that trick to earn their first win of 2022 and first away win of the season, especially having just lost two games they were targeting wins from (Binfield and Westfield).
We would leapfrog the Sutton Common with a win, potentially jumping two places to 16th depending on Chalfont St Peter’s result against Thatcham Town on Saturday.
Rovers aren’t in great form themselves, having lost seven of their last eight games, with their only win coming against table proppers Staines Town. However, they have made several new signings in the past few days, including ex-Leyton Orient Academy forward Jordan Adeyemi.
For the Green Lions, Will Fazakerley has been training for a few weeks after recovering from a recurrence of a long-term shoulder injury, while Tom Martin is also fit again, but Thomas Dodds will miss out after injuring his ankle against Westfield last Saturday.
