Green Lions out to plunder from Pirates

Guernsey have the chance to close the gap on second place to five points as they visit Bexhill United on Wednesday night – if the game goes ahead.

It’s the first league meeting between the pair, with the two sides’ only previous meeting in the FA Vase in August, when the Green Lions won 4-1 at Hastings United’s Pilot Field (Bexhill groundshare with the local cricket club so cannot play on their normal home pitch while the cricket season is still on).

There will be changes to the side that beat Steyning Town, with Gil Hunter, Dave Merris and Ben Solway unavailable. Luckily Tony Vance has experience to call upon with the return of Jacob Fallaize and Jamie Dodd. Ross Allen and Charlton Gauvain were both taken off with knocks on Saturday but have been deemed fit to travel with the squad. Tom Vaudin is also not travelling which means a space for teenage striker Tyrese Kelly.

GFC have won 10 out of their last 11 games and need to keep up their form to ward off the teams challenging directly below them, who keep winning themselves. Bexhill’s form is inconsistent – after a promising start they have developed a trend of jumping between wins and losses from game to game. They have an eight-point gap to make up on the play-off places.

Gauvain is set to join Ryan-Zico Black on 206 appearances for the club, joint seventh in the all-time list.

Wednesday night’s match kicks off at 7.30pm. Fans planning to make the trip to the Polegrove Recreation Ground should keep an eye on our social media for news of the game going ahead. Wednesday is set to be dry in Sussex according the forecast but both of Tuesday night’s games were called off so we will wait to hear news on the condition of the pitch.

Fans not making the trip can watch full live coverage on our YouTube channel or keep up to date via our social media channels. A full match report will follow.
